Hi guys,

thought i'd come more or less to the source of E85 knowledge as it's still a pretty new thing here in Oz :)

i've had my other R34 on E85 for a while, love it, fantastic stuff and i want to go again with the R34 GTR, but take it a step further this time.
Ideally, i want a flex-fuel setup to allow for variances in E% across different products and different seasons (one of the petrol companies here has stated they'll offer winter/summer mixes)

And of course have a 98 back-up if required.

Was thinking of running a Link G4 ECU, with a Seimens ethanol content sensor (the GM part # one), and will have a wideband sensor as well (AFR) -

Basically wanting to know what the best way of setting up flex-fuel would be.
Are these all the components i need or should i look at getting other items?
I'd like the ECU to figure most of it so as to save me time/$ by getting the tuner to map a whole range of mixtures (and not have to change maps, ie. like a flex-fuel car)

How many maps minimum would i need to make sure the ECU can interpolate accurately enough between mixtures? I take it i wouldn't be able to do a 98 tune, a E100 tune and let the ECU figure out the rest? Would you do say 98, E50, E75, E85, E98?

I'm not very cluey when it comes to mapping, etc etc and this is new territory for the tuner as well, so any feedback/advice/thoughts/opinions would be great.

cheers :)

Found an old thread here (http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/in...727.msg1083049) on how to make a tester using the sensor from a flex fuel vehical. Thanks "Dave two" for the info, not sure if you are here or not...lol

I went to a junk yard yesterday and found a taurus to take the sensor from, paid $10. for it. Stopped at radio shack for the resistor and batt. connector.

Put it all together and it seems to work well, gonna do some more testing with it this week.

I have about $16. invested in it excluding the meter.

Here it is with no fuel:

This is the reading I got from just guessing and mixing some E98 and 93:

And this is some supposedly ethanol free gas from a local station that advertises 100% Ethanol free mid and prem gas.

Now this sample was out of a gallon can that has set open for 24 hrs so not sure if that would skew the results a little.

I've seen quite a bit about not being compatible with Aluminum but not to what end. I assumed it would eat or somehow harm the parent material. So my question is, does the aluminum contaminate the E85?

I set up a new tank with a cast pump with a proper E85 packing/check kit, proper cast filter housing with proper high alcohol 10m filter but cheaped out and bought an aluminum swivel and aluminum auto shut off diesel nozzle thinking it was cheap enough to take a chance on the E85, in time, eating through the material.

After my event and dispensing about 35-40 gallons the tank set idle for about a month until this last weekend when I, thankfully not in my car, dispensed some into a jug. To my surprise it came out pretty dark brown much like very old stale regular fuel. Not to my surprise it stuck the plastic auto shut off mechanism in the closed position. Unscrewed the filter and it was clear. Unscrewed nozzle and cycled pump to discharge in same jug and fuel appeared to be clear(er). Shined a flashlight into tank before and after this and fuel was clear. I've since ordered a poly nozzle and nickel swivel.

So what I'm wondering, does the material foul the fuel? I'm also assuming that improper hose would deteriorate the hose and not necessarily foul the fuel?

Any experience in this regard?
Thanks
